The daily fantasy baseball will be in full force tonight as all 30 MLB teams are in action. This heavy slate of games provides us with a ton of fantasy options to build around including a few top tier options on the mound as well as some key fantasy matchups based on location.
While we typically turn to the starting pitching slot to build from tonight we are going to stray away from that and look to games taking place at hitter friendly ball parks. Overall we have four games we really like based on the stadium with the top of those options coming at Coors Field between the Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs.
Along with that contest the other games we like tonight to build our lineup around include the Houston Astros at Baltimore Orioles (combined to hit eight home runs last night), Toronto Blue Jays at Cleveland Indians (stadium ranks 2nd in runs and 3rd in hits according to MLB Park Factors) and the last features the Los Angeles Dodgers at Cincinati Reds (ranks 7th in home runs according to MLB park factors).
Here is our MLB options we like tonight in Daily Fantasy Baseball lineups.
MLB Daily Fantasy 411 for Friday August 19th, 2016
Top Option – Cole Hamels, Texas Rangers: While also considered Johnny Cueto we gave the slight advantage to Hamels tonight. The Rangers starter has been consistent for his fantasy owners turning in at least 30 fantasy points in six straight games. Add that with the fact he will be pitching at a very friendly pitchers ball park in Tampa Bay (ranks 26th in runs, 21st in home runs and 30th in hits according to MLB Park Factors).
Mid Tier Option – Adam Wainwright, St. Louis Cardinals: Despite his recent struggles we like the Cardinals starter tonight against the Philadelphia Phillies. Earlier this season Wainwright worked six innings while striking out four Phillies to finish with 33 fantasy points.
Fantasy Sleeper Option: Seth Lugo (Deep Sleeper – Like Him in GPP Formats)
Evan Gattis, Houston Astros: It was a toss up between Gattis and Willson Contreras. In the end we valued the additional salary cap savings by going with the Astros catcher tonight. On the season Gattis is five for 16 against the Orioles with one home run.
Back Up Option: Willson Contreras
Fantasy Sleeper: Carlos Ruiz
Freddi Freeman, Atlanta Braves: We will continue to ride the Braves first baseman as he continues to swing a hot bat. Entering tonight, Freeman has picked up hits in eight straight games while posting at least double digit fantasy numbers in five of those games.
Back Up Options: Chris Davis, Anthony Rizzo and Mark Teixeira.
Jose Altuve, Houston Astros: Sometimes you just have to roll with a fantasy option based on his past success against a starting pitcher. That is the case with the AL hit leader as he gets to add to his success against Wade Miley. Overall the Astros second baseman has picked up 11 hits in 18 career at bats making him a great option tonight.
Back Up Option: DJ LeMahieu
Fantasy Sleeper: Brandon Phillips
Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies: We could have easily gone with Kris Bryant as the top option as well. In the end Arenado has put up great career numbers in his own ball park leading to the slight advantage over Bryant plus you will save a few dollars for your salary cap.
Back Up Options: Kris Bryant, Josh Donaldson (Monitor Injury Status) and Yunel Escobar.
Corey Seager, Los Angeles Dodgers: Seager is one of those options that we love to use but sometimes we pass up based on his salary cap number. That being said tonight we could not pass him up as he continues to ride a nine game hitting streak with seven of those contests featuring at least two.
Back Up Option: Troy Tulowitzki and Javier Baez.
Fantasy Sleeper Option: Adeiny Hechavarria
Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals: For us the first spot we turned when looking at the top fantasy options tonight is the Nationals outfielder. Entering tonight Harper has torched Julio Teheran who is expected to be activated off the disabled list. In 28 career at bats, Harper has picked up 12 total hits with five of those hits going for home runs.
Jason Heyward, Chicago Cubs: For us we are looking past the fact the Heyward has not lived up to that mammoth contract he signed in the offense. For us it was simply being able to get an outfielder tonight in the Rockies/Cubs game that doesn’t cost over the $4k mark though we also love Dexter Fowler and Carlos Gonzalez.
Adam Eaton, Chicago White Sox: Eaton has been hot for his fantasy owners of late posting over 15 fantasy points in four of his last six games. Add that to the fact that US Celluar Field ranks near the top in Home Runs according to MLB Ball Park Factors makes him a great option.
Back Up Options: Hyun Soo Kim, Dexter Fowler, Carlos Gonzalez and Mookie Betts.
Fantasy Sleeper Options: Michael Bourn and Jake Marisnick.
